Schools often furnish an entire campus with a single desk-and-chair size to simplify procurement into one purchase order. But a five-year-old and a fifteen-year-old have completely different reach, seat height and posture needs — mismatched furniture shows up later as slouching, poor handwriting posture, or children simply not using the furniture the way it was designed to be used.

Younger children with feet that don't reach the floor compensate by sitting forward or tucking their legs under the chair, which defeats the purpose of the seat's backrest entirely. Older students, meanwhile, get cramped into desks that were really sized for a much younger grade whenever procurement doesn't segment by age band.
