30 Years of Ergon Xlu: Our Manufacturing Story

Ergon Xlu started in Hyderabad in 1995 with a straightforward but ambitious idea: that commercial furniture in India didn't have to be a choice between imported quality at imported prices, or locally assembled furniture built to the lowest acceptable standard. Thirty years and thousands of installations later, that founding idea is still the one that shapes every product decision we make.

Building the capability before building the catalogue

In the early years, the temptation for any growing furniture business is to outsource production and focus purely on sales and design — it's faster to scale that way. We took the slower route instead: investing in in-house CNC machining, welding, upholstery and finishing capability before expanding the product range. That decision is why we can control tolerances, materials and quality at every stage today, rather than depending on a chain of external vendors whose standards we can't directly verify.

From office chairs to a full commercial ecosystem

What began as an office seating workshop has grown into six manufacturing categories — office seating, workspaces, structural frames, commercial & hospitality furniture, institutional furniture for schools and healthcare, and specialised pad chairs — each built on the same in-house engineering discipline. The throughline across all of it has never been the product category; it's been the standard of manufacturing behind it.

Certification as a discipline, not a marketing exercise

Somewhere along the way, pursuing ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and 50001 certification, and BIFMA and GREENGUARD testing for our seating, stopped being about what goes on a brochure and became simply how we run the factory. It's a slower, more paperwork-heavy way to manufacture furniture. It's also the only way we've found to guarantee that a chair we ship to a client in Kochi today performs identically to one shipped to Hyderabad five years ago.

Serving South & Mid India, one relationship at a time

Today we manufacture and deliver across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mysuru, Madurai and Thiruvananthapuram — corporate offices, educational institutions and healthcare facilities among them. Many of our earliest corporate clients from the 1990s are still ordering from us today, which is the metric we actually care about far more than headline growth numbers.
